”Homebrew Suite (original Finnish title Maatiaissarja) is chronologically my second suite for solo treble viol. Similarily to Kansanmusiikkigambaa (2013) ja Puumala-sarja (2015) the Homebrew Suite combines the aesthetics of folk music and early music in instrumentally idiomatic way.The opening movement Preludi ”La Gelosia” is a setting from the Medieval Italian dance la gelosia that I got acquainted with in 2013 as I was playing treble viol in the ensemble that was accompanying the Sibelius Academy Medieval & Renaissance dance course students at their matinée. The second movement Ananiaan valitus (Lamento of Ananias) is built on a long and melancholic lamento melody that is supported with a stable drone of the tonic A. The third movement, Teppo Cederin hanhet (Teppo Ceder's hen) is a simple country dance in triple meter, imitating the behavior of the hen of my friend Teppo.
At the hands of several musicians the second movement Ananiaan valitus has extracted itself from the suite and has created a life of its own as an independent piece of music. The piece exists in several versions, e.g. for organetto and for musical saw.” (O.V. February 2019)
