Försoning? (Atonement?) was written in 2006 as a prelude to The Devil’s Lungs. Meditative and peaceful in nature, Försoning? is the opposite of the shameless virtuosity of The Devil’s Lungs. The piece makes bold use of large chords (up to 11 notes) that are gradually transformed to a melodic flow. The piece includes some improvisational options that refer to the performance practices of the Baroque era.
Försoning? can be performed either as an independent work or as a prelude to The Devil’s Lungs. In the latter case, the two pieces should be played attacca.
