Wind Quintet is a sixteen-minute work in four movements. The compact first movement Intro briefly introduces the main thematic motifs of the piece. The second movement Rento (Relaxed) is an intriguing combination of the elements of simple and complex. The lyrical melody lines of the flute and oboe are confronted by rhythmically complex yet harmonically stable accompaniment of the clarinet, horn and bassoon. The slow and tranquil third movement, Piirto (Drew), concentrates on the gradual changes of tone color and dynamics. The finale, Liito (Glide), provides the piece with a virtuosic ending in the spirit of György Ligeti’s Bagatelles.
