Questa storia del mago non mi convince

2001

Description

In EnglishSuomeksi

Originally written for Ensemble Ambrosius in 1998, Questa storia del mago non mi convince was later arranged for big band in two versions, the first for UMO Jazz Orchestra (2001) and the second, two years later, for the Swinging Europe Big Band (see Cantatori sauna finlandese).

The piece is divided into three distinctive sections. As the repetitive melodic theme has been introduced in both its basic, harmonically altered and rhythmically augmented form, a sharp cut starts a harmonically static instrumental solo passage which through a bridge leads to the obsessively repetitive ending.

One of Virtaperko’s most performed pieces, Questa storia del mago non mi convince has stayed in the concert programs of Ensemble Ambrosius for more than a decade.

Alunperin vuonna 1998 Ensemble Ambrosiukselle sävelletystä Questa storia del mago non mi convincesta on olemassa kaksi bigband-versiota. UMO Jazz Orchestralle vuonna 2001 tehty versio on standardikokoiselle bigbandille, kaksi vuotta myöhempi Swinging Europe Big Band -versio puolestaan sisältää lisäsoittimistona jousikvartetin, vibrafonin ja harmonikan.

Questa storia… jakaantuu kolmeen selkeästi erottuvaan jaksoon, joita erottavat selkeät ja alleviivatut teksturaaliset leikkaukset. Teos alkaa kappalessa toistuvan teeman esittelyllä, ensin rytmisesti harvennetussa muodossaan, sitten perusmuodossaan sekä harmonisesti muunneltuna. Tätä seuraa vapaamuotoinen soolojakso, jonka kaartuu siirtymän (”bridge”) kautta kohti teoksen päättävää kertausjaksoa.
